Case Study: St. Mary's Home

Updated WordPress theme and ongoing Web Maintenance.

The world was at war when what was then St. Mary’s Infant Home opened on Dec. 8, 1944, in a renovated century-old building to care for abandoned and orphaned children.

St. Mary’s Home has been growing and changing ever since, while continuing to cherish each young person who comes here as an individual to be respected, listened to and loved.

Through the years, the number of children and young adults that St. Mary’s Home cares for has grown, from a dozen to as many as 100. The age limit grew, too, from 6 years to 21. In 2013, after more than six decades of helping children, St. Mary’s Home began caring for adults over 21 as well with the opening of The Albero House.

The Problem:

St. Mary’s Home was thriving, but their website was not. An outdated theme and untrained staff made updating the site frustratingly difficult. The wonderful staff at St. Mary’s Home fought the good fight and managed to add content, but they finally realized that there had to be a better way.

The Solution:

User X, along with McMahon Creative, met with St. Mary’s Home and evaluated their processes and existing content. With the help of McMahon Creative’s clean layout that focuses on the kids User X created custom tools for adding news clips and releases so the site could be updated easily.

Finally, User X provided the training they needed to continue building up the site and keeping their visitors informed about upcoming events, what’s in the news, and how St. Mary’s Home can help kids live a better, happier life.

The Results:

As a result of the new website and ongoing maintenance, St. Mary’s Home is delivering better content and visitors to the site are spending more time reading more articles. A significant decrease in bounce rate and pages per session more than doubling shows that visitors are finding what they are looking for.

We are excited about our new website and all the new traffic we’re getting. The ease of use is impressive and with the training we received from User X, we are able to keep the site updated and continue serving new content for visitors. Most importantly, User X understands our goals and helps us in achieving measures of success. Plus, they are really easy to work with, making complex data easy to understand.
